About 90 minutes east of Paysandu sits our ranch, La Tejana. It's remote, it's rustic, and it's about as close to perfect for raising cattle as you can get. The ranch encompasses about 3,000 acres and a variety of landscapes - low wetlands, cooler treelines, vast grasslands. Two permanent rivers border the property, so that even in times of drought our cattle feed on the best-quality grass.
La Tejana has a top rating of 120 on the Coneat system, a ranking system established by the government of Uruguay to indicate land quality, fertility and overall productivity. The scale, which gives land a score from 0 to 200, takes into account average rainfall, availability to water, and mineral content; a score of 150 indicates land of excellent quality.
A functioning ranch since 1877, La Tejana is tended by our local business partner and his family. With three generations of ranching history behind them, they're well aware of what it takes to raise premium beef, and know how to make the most of La Tejana's abundant resources.
La Tejana showcases some of the best of Uruguay's ranchland, and in our opinion, it's definitely our favorite place to while away the hours of a day.
